I always wondered why there were so many different versions of the Made Niggaz music video. Over the years I've seen at least 5 completely different legitimate videos for that song shot with 2pac and the Outlawz and edited to music video standards.
There's the awesome cinematic version with fake Biggie and Puffy, the 360 version of them rapping in the locker room, one where they are rapping with police outfits on, then a mix-up of the first two, and one that mixes all of these with a montage of them prepping for the shooting of these.
The most-watched one on Youtube that's called "official" was posted on a third-party channel, but that version focuses around Gobi's 1-take shot of them prepping in the locker room, with a poor mix-up of snippets of their rapping scenes from the other versions thrown for good measure, while discarding the coolest and most-expensive-to-film parts of the others, which means it's very unlikely this is the official version. It's also of the lowest editing quality.
The main reason I'm quite sure this isn't the "official" version is that it's very different from the Puffy+Biggie cinematic ("uncut") version if we only removed the intro+outro skits. This version doesn't even use the footage from the "Official" one mentioned above - it uses entirely different shots. It also included Gobi walking into the shot that we know 2pac got angry at him about, which makes me feel like Gobi went rogue and made his own version and this is it?
My impression was that this "uncut" version would be the basis for the most "official" version, as it is also by far of the highest production quality. Yet the "cut" version of that one doesn't seem to exist. The "uncut" version also definitely isn't the official video as with all the skits and outro it is almost 10 minutes long.
I know that there are alternative versions of videos for other 2pac songs that were scrapped, but that was made more clear for How Do You Want it, Ain't mad at cha etc.. But since we have all of the "Made Niggaz" video versions available and not much evidence that one was actually meant to be the main version, does anyone know if any of them got actual playtime on TV?
Secondly, why did they bother making so many different videos for that song? What's the story? It definitely looks like a lot of work and effort went into the making of these. I always thought the raid scene was awesome, and it's only there in the uncut video.
Some of the different Made Niggaz video versions I found on Youtube:
Full uncut (no cop outfit shots):
360:
Very dubiously "Official" (entire first half is based on Gobi's 1-shot prep for the video from a side cam):
An entirely different version filmed more from the main cameras, 360 video raps and more cop outfit raps:
And there's also a version with Gang Related shots instead of the Puffy/Biggie plot:
I can't see the mostly cop-outfit one on Youtube, but do you see what I mean? Each of these is completely different, sharing very few of the same shots.
