What do you do when you can't sleep?

I can't fall asleep before 3am and sometimes even later. Actually since I had a few free days lately I went to sleep at 7am and woke up at 5pm. Then I had problems going to sleep earlier than at 7am.
Whenever I have to wake up early I feel like shit for the whole day but then I still can't go to sleep early. Sometimes when I don't fall asleep for one night I fall asleep early on the next day but then it's all the same again. I was always the type of "night person".
I feel much, much better if I don't sleep for the whole night than when I wake up after a whole night of sleep. Actually I love sunny mornings when I don't sleep for the whole night - it's the only time when I really enjoy them. That's because I feel terrible for the first few hours after waking up. Everything sucks and I'm willing to destroy everything on sight while being out of energy and feeling depressed.
Actually the later it is the more energy I have and that's why I can't fall asleep. Before 5-6pm I feel like shit and I feel the best at 10pm-3am. That's when I'm full of energy. Then just before I go to sleep I feel like I could do everything and am willing to do just anything. Sleeping seems like the worst thing ever at that time.
I wonder if there's a way to change it. And yeah it's been always like that, even when I was younger and was used to going to sleep earlier and waking up earlier - it was the same.

You should look into hypo glycemia. What you described there is the way a lot of hypo glycemics feel.

That's when you should start studying the hardest subjects you have. You might retain it better and it'll get you sleepy. Or start reading a heady book you always wanted to get to. Read Shakespeare or the Bible. Do some stinking math.

I don't think my blood sugar levels were ever too low. Also I was told that it's a chronotype thing. Some people act like that depending on their Chronotype and as far as I know it's unknown whether you can change that to any bigger extent.

Yeah that's what I usually do. I study the most at night and that's when I'm the most efficient.

It's a simple solution of keeping your eyes peeled away from the computer screen, staying physically active, and stimulating your mind. When I can't sleep well at night, the next afternoon I have free I usually will nap through it. I swear I am part-kitteh.
