Tupac - Hit Em Up. Was it a hype?

I wasn't aware of its release in the states, but in Frank Alexanders book he writes that it was straight on the radio, and Pac was like 'yo, they gonna be bumping this in every club in every state' (apart from NY lol). But yeah, definately self expression, fuelled by his experiences.

Up here in Canada it went unnoticed for a while, no video or radio play. I usually don't buy singles, so I never bothered to pick up the How Do U Want It single with it on there when it dropped. In fact, it wasn't until his death that I even heard of the song. I was reading the Rolling Stone tribute issue, and they had a whole section dedicated to that song, I was like, what's this? It must be crazy! I didn't even hear it until I picked up Death Row's Greatest Hits in early 97, the first time I heard it, I was speechless, like damn, did he just say that shit? "My 44 make sure all your kids don't grow" That was some cold hearted shit.
