my girl has to unfortunately stay with her grandma in a nursing home for a few weeks cos her parents had some business to do in a diff state. they got some really shitty computers there, with crappy internet. i drove her home and at around 1am we thought wed bum on the computers. every single thing is blocked out. facebook, myspace, hotmail kept fucking up, youtube wouldn't work. then we tried a porno for shits and giggles, and it worked, but wouldnt work when we clicked refresh. then we saw files in Word with all these short bits of text like "the flying fox jumped over the little cat" or someshit... obviously a typing excercise.

but it got me thinking. why are they insulating these elderly people from the outside world? why is shit like facebook etc blocked out for these people? what harm could that shit do? it was sad to think about it

i agree with ill-matic. imagine coming to the point where whatever you say, someone will just think it's you being silly, disregard it and do whatever they "think is best" ie. take away anything that produces thrill or joy from you, and trying to tell you what to do.

Old people for the most part here in nj are disrespectful rude assholes that go around swearing "these kids" have no respect, yet really they are the ones with none... I think old people should be isolated from the rest of the world and should NEVER EVER be permitted to vote... for starters... I love sweet old people but I fucking hate the rest of em...

This reminds me of my friends mean old grandma. She's in her 80's...She told me over the summer if I got any darker I would look like a colored girl. She hates holidays. I'm scared of her.

I volunteered at a nursing home ONE time...they were on so many drugs they fell asleep in the middle of their sentences. It was very sad. I never want to go back.

i duno.. the whole concept of nursing homes just depresses me... To get to my uni i sometimes catch this bus that goes through a nursing home... I saw this old man just sitting on this bench, staring into space. They can barely walk, with their hunched backs and their arthritis crippling their bones. And i duno, just the concept of being 'dumped' in a nursing home.. it's sad

My mother works with the elderly, shes sometimes surprised at how the kids of the elderly don't really care about them and just leave them for days without phone calls or anything.
