I have a bunch of everything really. My mom was really into motown.. Tatooine, Wind & Fire, James brown, and shit like that as well. My dad was always into Isaac Hayes, Miles Davis, Fela Kuti, Coltrane, a lot of really great artists. Naturally I dug the records and explored on my own and listen to a lot of random shit, old new whatever. My older brother got me into rap when I was a young'n like 6 years old so I've been collectin rap records forever, and break records. My record collection is pretty vast, it's not impressive when you look at some collectors but it's respectable. My Aunt was even married to the drummer of Pantera at one point, and my Uncle managed a band named Torque who was similar to Pantera, they were pretty big overseas...I grew up listening to a wide range of everything, so my record collection matches that. I imagine you'd collect a lot as well right?

Your Aunt was married to the drummer of Pantera? That's awesome - a good friend of mine is a HUGE Pantera fan.

Seems like you got a good musical education from your fam. I did too. My dad hipped me to classical music, The Beatles, Coltrane, early blues stuff like Robert Johnson, rock n roll stuff like Chuck Berry, and Queen. My mom passed away when I was real young but I remember going through her stuff and finding lots of Motown stuff as well as the Rolling Stones. My older cousins introduced me to hip-hop, Zapp, P-Funk, British Indie Rock, Rave Music/House, Roots reggae, dancehall, Electronica, Electro funk. I got into Hip-Hop, Synthpop, Punk, New Wave, Metal, Grunge, Lovers Rock and a few more genres by myself as a teen through picking up stuff at record fairs and second hand CD stores.

I do own a considerable amount of music but I'm trying to scale down and sell a bunch of it. Mostly the vinyl, because it's just so impractical to have especially since I'll be moving here to the US permanently next year.

I feel like I've heard of Torque. Will have to do some googling.

Sure. We had math together in high school for a summer. He went to our rival high school.

No, it wasn't his last name. He was also Zoroastrian, the first one I had ever met. We had a temple, or whatever their place of worship is called, just minutes away from our house. Told us some crazy things he did to become a priest and stuff.

I dunno if you're a Queen fan, but I would have asked him like a million questions lol. I've always been a huge Queen fan. A few months ago I went on a real Queen binge where I watched like 5 different documentaries and all of the live concert footage available. I plan on buying the book that Freddie's PA wrote.... I read some of it online and it was real good.

For my money, Freddy is right up there as the best rock frontman of all time, with Robert Plant and Axl Rose coming pretty close.

No, I really haven't gone beyond the more mainstream songs of theirs. I did read up on him and he had quite an interesting life and a ton of accolades. Of course, he was in fucking Queen. But then I got ADD and started looking more into what Parsi was and tried finding out how Indians came to be. Haha. The Aryans and all that. Got even more confused and gave it a rest. Should have paid more attention in History lecture in college. I know the ancient civilizations and all, but the whole Persian stuff throws a curveball and I wish I knew more.

A boy in my school was Parsi. He had smokey bacon crisps one day and couldn't eat them. So I helped him out. I feel like I am sympathetic to religion like that.

Going back to an earlier point, I just thought I'd mention that given the entire US appears to stop on a Sunday in early February (and apparently sometimes late January) every year, tuning in in their millions to watch a Bowl of the Super variety, with corporations spending hundreds of millions of dollars to advertise in breaks, and every year, legendary musicians perform in the half-way break, including the likes of The Who, Paul McCartney, Sting, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen and U2......... I would venture to say that taking the number one slot in THIS list is quite the achievement. Booyah.

I can't lie. I always thought that was the best halftime performance I've seen. It was fucking raining while he sang purple rain, and his silhouette with his guitar looking like a penis, genius

That performance will go down in history as one of greatest live music performances of all time. It pretty much already has. Insanely epic and firing on all cylinders - he didn't just hit a home run, he knocked that motherfucker out of the park, out of the country, through the atmosphere and into the depths of space. It was like Queen at Live Aid, or Hendrix at Monterey/Woodstock....Nirvana at Reading Festival....it's up there with all of those.

I've seen Prince live enough times (in real life and on TV) to not be surprised when he delivers a superb performance, but I remember staying up late to watch that halftime show live (because of the time difference it was on in England at like 4am or something) and I was absolutely floored. Something lit a fire up his ass on that day. He picked the right songs from his own catalog, and throwing out "Proud Mary" and "All Along The Watchtower" to THAT crowd was a freakin' power move as well.

Just his stage presence too. Like during Purple Rain when he throws the mic to the floor so everyone else can sing, little shit like that. When he went into All Along The Watchtower and blended perfectly into Foo Fighters, shit was tight
