Question about Above The Rim

Why are the songs featured in Above The Rim all Pre-DR tracks when the soundtrack is by Death Row?

How did DR have access to these songs?
I think this is when Suge was eyeing Pac, and Pac did 2 tracks for Suge. Only one got on the soundtrack but Suge paid him for both anyway becase he knew he needed the money and wanted to help him out.

Damn, that was a dumb question if I ever saw one. Kids these days...

Think about it. Above the Rim was released in 1994, and Pac signed officially with Death Row toward the end of 1995. So the songs Pac recorded for the soundtrack (for around $200,000) were for Death Row but he wasn't part of the label yet.

By Pre-DR people mean before he signed to Death Row.

He did those songs without signing to DR..

It's not that they didn't make the CD, that was just DR's way to make more money. Put bonus tracks on the tape so that people who bought the CD buy the tape as well. They did the same thing with Murder Was The Case by adding Hot Ones by OFTB (Arguably the best track on the album imo) on the tape.
