BooK: Queens Reigns Supreme, Chapter: Straight Outta Hollis Part 1 by 2krazy aka Tojo
As an adolescent, Shakur studied classical music and ballet at the Baltimore School of the ARts, and when he and his mother, Afenimoved from Baltimore to Marin City, CA in 1988. Shakur was such a failure at hustling that he handed his supply back to his distributor.
With no experience on the streets beyond the botched attempt at drug dealing in the Bay Area, Shakur assumed that the showboating Agnant was the most fearsome of his new friends. "He is the epitome of wut ppl think is gangsta is," Rosemond(Jimmy Henchman, a jealous cat from NY) says of Agnant, "the jewelry, the diamonds, the cars, the crew."
Shkur was so taken with Agnant that he told friends he was studyin the hustlers every move to prepare for his role as a drug dealer named Birdie in Above the Rim. The rappers friends warned him that his friendship with Agnant could lead to trouble (everyone told Pac to stay away from Haitian Jack) but the pair became fast friends in large part becuz they shared a taste for theatrical displays of violence. "When I introduced Pac to Jack he clinged [sic] to Jack becuz Jack wanted to do the things he wanted to do,"
Rosemond explains. "They would beat up dudes together, thhey would do the bullshit that i wasnt doing anymore."
Though Shakur assumed that the plain, unasuming Rosemond (5'7 tall, sports an unkempt afro n spurns designer clothes for plain white sneakers n generic jeans) was Agnants underling, Rosemond actually had a criminal history far more serious than Agnants: Duuring the 80s he ran with homicidal West Indian drug gangs, and when he was just 17 he was arrested wn hit with a number of charges ranging from urder to weapon possesion. Rosemond declined to take part in Agnant and Shakur's sparring, as any wrong moves on his part could send him to jail for rest of his life. "Tupac didnt
understand why i wouldnt get into the rumbles he wanted to get into," Rosemond says. "He would beat up people and I would jimp in the middle and be like "Man, what the hell are you doing.?"(Jimmy is a pussy cuz he got out from jail and afraid to go back) I was trying to restrain him."
Agnant, however only egged Shakur on the pair became inseparable, club-hopping together at NEw York nightspots with A-list celebrities like Madonna. One night in the late fall of 1993, Shakur met a starstruck 19 old fan at Nells who he said fellated him on the clubs dance floorsl a few days later, shakur and a posse that included Agnant allegedly gang-raped the young woman in a suite at a midtown Manhattan hotel. Shakur was accused of subjecting the fan to "sexual contact by forcible complusion," and though prosecutors eventually dismissed the indictment against Agnant( he pled guilty to 2 misdemeanor charges instead), he allegedly told victim taht "he [Shakur] likes you so much he wanted to share u with his friends."
At Shakur's insistence, Rosemond and Randy "Stretch" walker, a hiphop producer raised on 210th St and Hollis Avenue, took Shakur on guided tours of NY's roughest neighborhoods. "I showed him from example," Rosemond recalls. "I brought him to Brooklyn with me, and we were up with dreads [Rastafarians] in houses full of weed, full of guns, full of money. IT was, "This is how we do it, u know what im saying?" The mentorship of savy street guys like Rosemond and Walker ultimately had lil effect on the implusive Shakur, who seemed more interested in causing confrontations than avoiding them.
Shakurs incorrigible had behavior began to cause friction between Rosemond and Shakur; Rosemond began to cause the rapper's insatiable appeptite for needless acts of violence would land them both in prison.
"One time, me, Pac, Stretch, and Jack were riding in QUeens on Linden Boulevard and some cops rolled up," Rosemond remembers. "I'm nervous as hell. Im sure we're going to get stopped. We got Tupac in the car! Im lik, `We all clean, right? and Pac says hes' not. He had his bulletproof vest and his gun on him. After the police life- they didnt stopus- I told Jack, `Pull the car over;. I screamed at Pac: `Dont u ever get in a car with me with a gun without letting me know. We have stashes for that. We dont need to go to jail for u being stupid. We got problems in NEw YOrk and even we dont need to have a gun. You with us, you safe.`"
