it's pathetic how many people go bankrupt everyday, how many people owe so much, how many people are just careless about their credit.

when i see someone who is on employment insurance and has a visa card of $15,000 on which they even went $2,000 overlimit on, it fucking kills me.

i see that everyday, viva collection department.

I just got myself into $5,000 debt for my holiday, but I dont worry bout it because I saved over $6,000 in 4 months so I know I can do it again. Thing is Carmi you dont always know the situation a person has gone through to get them to be bankrupt so to call them pathetic without knowing that is pretty pathetic in itself. My parents had a business that was going really well, the country went into recession the newspaper advertising the company demanded payment which put the company under and forced them bankrupt. Yes some people are careless with credit, but not all and the situations arnt always the same.

When it's for meaningless things yeah, but alot of people go into debt because they don't have health insurance or the insurance doesn't wanna cover shit. In december I was in the hospital for 30 minutes and it cost me $2,000. Don't you guys have free health care in Canada?

Yes we do have free health care. Do you have a medicare card? If not, you pay.

As for calling them pathetic cause they go over the limit; Believe me, not everyone is irresponsible. Sometimes they have to go into debt as a last solution.

I can go into many examples of people who had to do it as a last solution, but since I'm lazy and hungry. I choose not to lol.

Yesterday I went bankrupt, lost my house and got put in jail. I hate monopoly.
LOL, nice.

Anyway, carmi, judging from this thread and many other threads you made in the past (+ the writer's strike blog), you often see things from one perspective and don't look at multiple perspectives before forming your opinion. I guess it beats being ambivalent in certain situations. Still, THINK MORE.

I'm sorry, but I agree with carmi on this one. Yes some people do go into debt because its their only solution, however they are in the minority. A lot more people go into debt because they are irresposnible and/or because they don't know how to manage their money.

But I'm not talking about the people who are literally living a crisis. I'm talking about 20 y.o. who get $2,000 credit cards and go overlimit with them and then tell me it's not their fault. Yea the bank gave you the card, but we didn't make the purchases for you. If you're not responsible enough to use your credit responsibly, next time you'll know. And then when they are in shit, they tell me I'm screwing them, that we should freeze the interest for them, I'm like wtf? Why would I do that? It's not the bank's problem if you cannot manage your credit.

Plus what pisses me off is that people DON'T care about their credit. They go 3 months late and then they realize there is such a thing called Credit Bureau that exist. It's ridiculous. Then they complain of how we screwed them over, no we didn't. Read your cardholder agreement twice before telling me we screwed you. You should have read it before signing for the card.

Yeah really. I'm wayyyyy too responsible to get caught up in that credit card bullshit. Or just being in the hole money wise in general. I don't like oweing money, but if I do.. I always get it to the person on time. That includes car payments, insurance, phone bill etc. I never pay anything late. I care about my credit alot. I want to keep it good for the future. You never know.

Shit just happens sometimes, damn near my entire family including myself have maxed out credit cards trying to help pay for my gram's hospital care, hospice care, cancer treatments, etc. And I don't for one second regret any choice I made. No amount of money was worth the extra time it may have bought me with my gram.

There are so many other reasons people go into debt, school and trying to better themselves, trying to take care of their families, trying to afford the basic necessities like food, clothes and health care has put many people in debt.

Don't be so quick to judge because at the young age of about 20 and with no kids or family to take care of, while you still live at home with your parents you aren't in debt yet. You never know where you'll be at 37.

My father is in debt. There were a lot of external factors but it's mostly because he's a fuck-up. Can't wait to see his expensive new car!

No but I'm mostly talking about people who are not responsible. Of course sometimes it's just life and you can't do anything about it. But sometimes you can make choices.

I know where your coming from with this. I've had customers complain to me because they only pay the new charges on their bill not the bill charges from last month that they never paid and they wonder why they have to pay $1,000+ now before we re-connect them etc. Thats people of all ages.
Young people in a way I can understand, they most likely never had responsibility like this before and don't understand it. But this will be the first lesson for them and atleast it's early in their life. You just have to put up with it, which is the annoying part.. But you can only do what your job gives you so just roll with it.
