It seems the server company corrupted some core files during the move which resulted in the main page and forum acting funny and not working.

Im reinstalling all the software manually and things will be back to normal before you probably even read this.

This week I will upgrade the forum and add the arcade.

New server is a beast :)

If there are posts missing they were posted during the time between the backup being made on the old server and being uploaded to the new server.

They are gone forever. Pour out a little liquor... Or just repost them ;)

how often do the servers get updated or how often to you upgrade?

last time you said the new server was a beast. next time you upgrade that server will be more of a beast lol. great thing technology, how it develops. its a shame how quick things become outdated and the costs that come with it.

This is the first time I have upgraded the server, Im not sure when it was upgraded before me.

The last server was fine size and speed wise, but the amount of simultaneous concurrent users would top the RAM out, it would then use physical memory, which would top out, and it would crash. This happened daily the other week.

We had 4gigs and that is all that motherboard allowed, we now have an 8gig machine, which is faster as well, and has more space. So it is yay's all around, but the real issue was the RAM.

I expect to have to upgrade next year again. Its just a time thing. The $200 set up is minimal, and Rukas covered that, and his monthly bills remain the same, it is just a pain in the ass to do sometimes.

But all in all things went very smoothly today.

So if I understand correctly you basically have your own computer working as a server?
Here you could rent a good server for as much as 100Euro/month (prices start from 10euro for worse ones) and that's how most of our forums work. I don't know what are the total costs of running the Streethop server right now but it works fast for me though.

i'm guessing its a dedicated server. that > your rented server.
