yeah, screen broke. RIP like that wack jeezy song. $400 bucks gone where the fuuuuck did you spend it #rollout

Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One? The S4 looks shitty while the HTC One looks dope as fuck. Also it's cheaper. What do you say?

It may come with stock Android soon. The Dev Phone is rumored to be coming out soon.

I dunno. I stopped keeping tabs on phones after I got my S3.

I'd get the S4 "Nexus" - the S4 with clean Android straight from Google.

Also, see the S4 live, man. It's a great phone. It really makes the S3 look like crap when placed next to it. All you can actually see on the front is the awesome screen anyway, with very little of bezels left. Plus it doesn't look like a soap holder anymore.
Technically, it's all around better than the One too, even if by just a little bit (except of the camera and battery, where the S4 is much better)

Can't argue with that. From the design standpoint alone, the HTC One looks just more classy. S4 looks more modern in real life though. The display is bigger while the phone is smaller and lighter, which actually feels pretty awesome. And man, that screen..

Not caring about the size, the camera, battery and sd card slot the HTC One is basically the same inside. The S4 is faster only because it's clocked higher, but both are in the same league.

Edit: Sofi, there's also the Xperia Z. It's cheaper than both, essentially similar and much more durable. The processor is a first gen Krait which is like 30% slower, and the display isn't as great (but still ok). Other than that, the extra ruggedness and the fact that it's waterproof and actually cheaper might be a win.

I remember when I said I had dropped the garage door opener from my sun visor in my car and cracked the screen, you said "cases are for pussies."

Still feel the same way?

Giving it a second thought though... why do you want the S4 or HTC One and not another N4, which is 50% of the price and comes with stock Android?

The Xperia Z is in between but is waterproof and more rugged, like I mentioned.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. I think he just wants a bump in hardware specs, even though I don't think the N4 is THAT far behind the S4. How is the camera on the S4? I'm sure it's solid, but does it hold a light to the S4's which, I'm assuming here, is the best on the market right now (in well-lit conditions).

I never would have said this even a year ago, that the camera would be a huge factor in my smartphone purchase. But it is now. I love my S3's camera and the next phone I get in a few years will definitely have to have a top-notch camera.

Yeah, camera is super important to me too. Actually camera and battery life are 2 the most important factors when I choose a phone, just before the display and size.

N4's camera is clearly worse than the camera on the S4(which is the best smartphone camera), it's even behind the S3. Xperia Z comes second to the S4 though, it's the same sensor, just different processing and surprisingly Samsung does that better.

Performance-wise, the N4 has 4 Krait cores. The S4 has newer gen Krait cores which are like 20-30% faster, and clocked a little higher.
Still, I'm willing to bet that the advantage of running stock Android means smoother UI experience and at this point the chipset performance difference is negligible. The chipset performance difference will be visible when launching apps, and it won't be a big jump whatsoever.

If I remember correctly Sofi came from a single core A8 1ghz Nexus S to 4 Krait cores at 1,5ghz. That's like over 1000% performance difference, literally, lol. N4 to SGS4 is like 30%. On paper - that's where the difference is seen.

Xperia Z has very lightweight UI, similarly snappy to stock Android, almost.

Is CM considered to be like stock Android? Meaning if I had an S4 that was rooted to run CM and then had the vanilla S4, would there be any difference in performance, either noticeable or through benchmarks as well?

On my Droid, I found it be significantly better, actually. I think CM claims they have performance tweaks in their ROMs, but I'm not sure how far that is true.

I know that both, stock Android and CM are both better than any skinned Android. Although, CM is based on stock, so that might be why. To me CM is basically kind of stock-ish Android brought to a phone that doesn't run it by default.
