^ These are the only pictures leaked to the net so far. These weren't supposed to come out until next week. Obviously it's not going to be nearly as fast as the SL65 AMG, but it's still going to be plenty quick while handling much better since the 6.2-liter (all aluminum, I believe) is pretty light for what it is.

If there were any doubters, the SL63 AMG Black Series prototype supposedly has completed a Nurburgring lap time of 7:36. That's some serious shit.

Looks good. Rear stayed the same, though. Should've done more with that.

7.36? Are you *very* sure? I find it immensely hard to believe. I don't care how hardcore it is, it's still a big and weighty car, with no electronical 4wd gizmotry to keep it on it's line, yet it's pulling times a Cup prepared Porsche can only dream of?

I'm sure it's quick but I'd be amazed if it was quicker than an actual race car.

Keep in mind I was talking about the SL63 Black Series having pulled off that time, according to reports. Here are some pictures of a test mule going around the 'Ring:

One thing that concerns me is that awesome lap time. As we all know, the SL is generally heavy, and even with both the 6.2-liter V-8 in max 525 hp factory tune the magic AMG Black Series treatment, I don't know if that would make up for its inherent characteristics. That, along with those huge hood louvers that allow for better ventilation (for what, hmm?), leads me to believe that there may be the alleged twin-turbo version of the 6.2-liter lurking under that hood. Yes/no?

I thought it was Blackwood..? Whatever though. First one I saw of that series, guess they are doin all lthe models now, was the CLK. I'm still in love with that car. That time is ummm, not very believable I guess. If it does I'd be mad impressed but I don't know, seems to far fetched.

Well, look at it this way.

The 500 hp CLK63 AMG Black Series does it in 7:45. You figure the same Black Series magic that they do to the car's handling components along with weight savings measures (more carbon fiber) adapted to an SL, plus adding twin-turbos that will give it even more thrust and acceleration, it would be possible. I see this engine as having at least 620 hp (though probably more) along with the torque expected from a twin-turbo 6.2-liter.

This car is no joke.

Everytime I hear a new time at Nurburgring I think high 7's, when it's cars like this at least. Breakin 7:40 is pretty damn good. I'm not too sure but I think the Nissan GT-R did it in 7:38. Then I know the GT Carrera did it in 7:28 and I think that's the fastest lap time for a production car.

Then I did some researching and the CLK DTM AMG did it in 7:54. So again, this leads me to beleive that time is a little quick. But that was an '04 model... I guess I would just like to see it happen. You're right though, the car is no joke. Oh and the XJ220 did it in exactly 7:46, not bad company even though that car is like 15 years old, heh.

Just cus you'd care, the EVO IX put up a time of 8:11.

The fastest claimed (though not necessarily officially proven) lap of the GT-R was 7:35, though the 7:38 lap is the one that they talk about since it was videotaped. And regarding the Carrera GT, it got beat out recently by a Pagani Zonda F Clubsport (7:27.82) for the fastest production car lap time title.

The CLK DTM's time is a bit irrelevant. The car I mentioned (CLK63 AMG Black Series) is a better indicator, as the Black Series editions have completely revised suspensions with handling as its main goal. A similar hardcore approach to suspension tuning applied to an SL63 then adding twin-turbos is surely something that could allow it to hit a lap time like that. Just look at its widened fenders and front and rear track lengths.
Just cus you'd care, the EVO IX put up a time of 8:11.
I know. Very old news, though I'm sure that this time could easily be beat, since they used a pre-production prototype Evo IX and only tested it once.
