Well you're assuming a lot of things. The only facts we know is that there was a bottle of liquor in his car. If he was caught drunk driving screaming "Fuck you mommy and daddy, I'm doing what I want!!!" I'd agree. Drinking at the age of 19 doesn't seem rebellious to me. I started smoking weed at 15 and it didn't have anything to do with rebelling or thinking it was "cool". I also don't need it to have fun but I do have fun doing it. You don't need a TV or computer either. (Of course those things aren't bad for your health but it's up to the person to accept the risks).

I don't think it's even a little stupid, it doesn't make sense. The law deems an 18 year old mature enough to own a gun, which was designed to kill, but not to drink a beer, which might possibly lead to the person drinking too much and getting in the car. If they upped the gun age to 21, driving to 18 then I wouldn't have a problem with it. 21 is a good age because it decreases the chances of idiots fucking up but if a 19 year old is mature enough to drink responsibly then there shouldn't be a problem. Considering the way his mother (over)reacted I can understand why he hid it so the fact that he hid it doesn't necessarily say anything about his maturity.
Right, I assumed a lot. So, sticking with the facts, regardless of if the law is dumb or not, at no time should anyone under the age of 21 be in possession of alcohol. He was in possession of it, we don't know if he was drinking it or not but if was in his car, therefor making it his possession. It's illegal and the mother punished him how she deemed necessary. He was still in the wrong if he look at it from the point of view of only facts and no opinions. Law says no one under 21 has alcohol and he had it.

Yes he broke the law but weren't we talking about the morality of it and whether or not she overreacted?
