2. 'The Best of Prince' is a two-bit bare-bones compilation only featuring 17 tracks covering the years 1979-1991 and features less than impressive liner notes and no remastering. For a truly impressive compilation of aural excellence you will need to purchase the "Ultimate Prince" 2xCD collection featuring a better range of hits on the first disc and extended 12" mixes on the second disc and impressive digital remastering. Another alternative is the 1994 release "The Hits/The B-Sides" which contains two full discs of hits and a third disc of rare B-Side tracks that features some of the purple geniuses most impressive and edgy but lesser-known work, not to mention very thorough liner notes by Alan Leeds, a music industry veteran who started out working for James Brown, went on to become Prince's tour manager and president of Prince's own record label Paisley Park, and now manages D'Angelo.
