Lets talk about how Tupac actually recorded...

If anyone has time, please explain 'layering' for me in detail?

Ok, layering is recording the same verse multiple times to get a better or more "thick" or "fatter" vocal.. it can be adlibs or as aforementioned, the verse re-done...for example if pac records his verse for dear mama and goes back again and records with the same flow on point but with a slightly different tone, that is layering..but if you want to keep it simple layering is just recording the same verse multiple times and using adlibs...hope i could help u

Thanks for that info, much appreciated. One more question, any disadvantages of layering vocals?

you run the risk of losing clarity with the more layers you have.

you are basically sacrificing clarity for the sake of having a "fatter" lead vocal.

eminem does alot of layering, they call him unique for doing so. off topic but on my name is, when he is saying what my name is/slim shady.. backwards it says i'm eminem/ no i'm eminem... kinda cool but not what we are talking about.

i thought 2pac was great live before his death row days but for some reason during his death row days he wasn't as good to me live. don't know why. just check his performances before death row and during. 2pac is a studio genuis though. he knew what he was doing in the studio.

he got shot, I'm quite sure he had breathing difficulties when he did intense actions (performing is harder than u might think)
