lol @ best album. Fucking kids, man.

This comes after the slim shady lp, the marshal mathers lp, and the eminem show. This is not even up for debate. It's a real dope album, but nothing Em will put out ever will compete with those three releases.

he's gotta follow the times, theres no way he's gonna talk about the shit he did in the Marshall Mathers LP or his other albums...

Been listening to it most of the day. I wouldn't put it above SSLP or MMLP, but I do prefer it a bit more to the Eminem Show (sorry Sofi lol)

What Exrp says it's also true, he won't return to what he was. We also have to be honest with ourselves, when Eminem first surfaced we were mostly all in our teens, and we would go gaga over what he said since it was different to what was around at the time. If anything, those first 2 albums were part of our youth, so it's only normal we hold it dear to ourselves and will defend it lol.

This is nonetheless a very strong album. Better than most recent releases by commercial artists. It's possible some of those songs I'm not crazy about will grow on me, and the ones I enjoy will turn sour, but the album has re-playability to me, something which Relapse didn't else from Bagpipes From Baghdad and Hello.

Also, we're all still stuck in the wowwee and awe stage, wait a week or 2 and see how everyone feels. It might end up being very different to what we're seeing now. I'll post again in a week or 2 to see how I'm still feeling about it all.

The boy can flow though, and has amazing ways of putting words together and painting a clear picture for you.

I've been listening to this album slowly, track by track and it's been HEAVY soo far.

So Bad = DOPE production by Dre...hope Detox comes has hard as that beat!

A lot of the beats have been mediocre but then tunes like So Bad, and No Love make up for it...not to mention the revival of Em's lyrical fire.

Definite buy!!

Wayne's verse sound like Drakes on "Forever" other than that this cd is worth the hype, Em's wordplay is back to form and he seems to be coming back to the style everyone thought he should have been living up to on the last 2 albums.

I am hearing too many high sounds and not enough low sounds. Also getting some hiss. Not complaining... But would if Retail sounds like this.

But he's not following the times. If he were following the times, he'd be pulling a Jay-Z. Eminem didn't evolve musically really. His flow improved and mostly to the detriment of the lyrical content. The lyrics are technically there, but not always the content. He still picks not the best beats and I wouldn't call his singing an example of being musically evolved. One of the more prominent themes in the album is that he doesn't know what to rap about, ie. writer's block. He's addressed other issues fairly well, ie Proof, drug addiction, loneliness, fame. His hooks are an example of him not being with the times. The hook on so bad is cliche and corny and so is the chorus on cinderella man. I won't mention WTP because he was purposefully going for the corny factor as he always does with a mock club song.

I honestly think his flow and his wordplay are untouchable. He can rhyme anything with anything. Just by changing his delivery. He has as they say around here - Mad Skills. But he is struggling for content. I wished he'd pick a theme and stick to it. Great album for his delivery, flow and Mc skills. But... He's still chatting shit... But to less of an extent as his previous albums.


Maybe he should try making a concept album?

^Well, exactly. I'm not sure where your disagreement lies with my post but it doesn't really matter. When I say he's technically there, I mean exactly that. Wordplay and rhymes are there but what they say holds no substance.

I would take Rick Ross' one liner "I'm building a dream with elevators in it" over these lines "These other cats aint metaphorically where I'm at man/
I gave Bruce Wayne a Valium and said/ Settle ya f-ckin ass down I'm ready for combat-man/Get it calm batman?"

Also, a concept album would be interesting. It would force him to stay on topic.

On EM not having anything to rap about: Well what artists that have been around as long as Em still have engaging content throughout an entire album... Not many, if any.... It would have been interesting to see Pac after 10 - 15 years.... Pac had a broader range than Em as far as politics, songs for women, etc...

Em as great as he is at rapping doesn't seem to be a deep enough thinker to have a broad lyrical content.... He doesn't get out enough anymore to have different experiences... And he is not going to rap about all the money and cars and jewelry he has, which is what all these other guys are doing and its actually accepted which is beyond me...

These are just a couple of examples of subjects that Em will probably never touch or has and didn't really work out..... For me I could hear a full album of him discussing battles with drugs because it relates to me.... We all take his material differently because of its relation to our lives or if we just are interested in what he's talking about....

anyway just some ramblings, but I understand why it is hard for him to come up with different material especially with him being dependent on prescription drugs for so long..... It controls every aspect of your life, even if you dont realize it, your moods, your experiences, even the way you think about things....
Everything changes.... No compassion at all.... Thats why relapse was how it was.... But he's getting out of it now, so you'll see a lot more thought provoking subject matter in the future

Sofi, in relation to your list of producers for each track, I read that Cinderella Man is a Just Blaze production on another forum, but it surely doesn't sound like his style. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Dre or Em's own production to be honest.

The album if anything felt like a celebration of him coming slowly back to his own; which can be a theme itself no? Coming back to one's real self, and enjoying what he's doing. There are many references to that, and he does seem to come off more confident on the mic than he has in previous albums.

I've listened to the entire cd 5 times. Weakest link is the song with Pink, and even that's growing on me. Instant classic IMO. Mike D, I couldn't even choose right now. Everytime I listen to the cd, I think a different verse is the best. I might be overreacting, but this album is blowing me away.
