Yeah i quit smoking cold turkey on Jan 31st so it's been over six months now since i had a cigarette. Cold turkey is the way to do it since trying to smoke less and less every day/week is just going to keep you in the habit. the first days are obviously the toughest and for weeks you'll get random cravings (especially while drinking) and you'll even be dying for a smoke when you watch a movie where the actors are puffing. however, it gets better. after a few months the cravings diminish and the temptation, while still there, is hardly strong. Almost all my friends smoke and i was able to do it, so good luck to you. The thing is, you have to be serious about quitting. There's no point in trying if you're going to half-ass it.
