You mean scientific rationalists? To me that's a relatively new class of society, since the opposite class has been the prevailing one for most of recorded history.
It depends. Here most older people are the "I have to see it to believe"-type while most younger people tend to be fascinated with mysticism.
When I was young I recall many of my friends reading various books - from stories about fancy dragons, chinese medicine to various philosophical stuff - the more mystical the cooler it was. At that time usually their grandparents were laughing at them.
My granma used to say "This is not real, you can believe me on this since I've seen so much in my life." Then she used to bring encyclopedia to prove how pointless someone's theory is and say "go and have fun in our real world instead of wasting your youth with that bullshit".
Sure there are also old women that believe everything they hear or those really deeply religious but I guess that's because they're scared of death and don't have much to do except that anyway.
