How 2 find out what note is in a melody?

Is there an easy way...mebbe computer software to figure out whats notes R in a melody? So I could match an autotune or work wit samples better...

Or would just a guitar tuner be able 2 pick it up enuf?

i personally have no idea i never really played any instruments. but my boy can usually just tell what the note is... then hell play the note and see if it sounds the same. as the saying goes, just play it by ear lol.

only thing i can imagine is play the song and have your midi keyboard hooked to a synth in an audio program (reason f.ex.), or if you have an actual synth use that, and try to play a random note every time the note you're trying to figure hits, until you find the right one lol.

that's probably how they did it back in the days so yea, try that

Run the sample through Melodyne, it will graph the notes on a scale.
