"...celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes..."

What kind of activities are performed in the house?

My Indian friend tells me that in India, it's customary to have a room where everyone can sleep in between meals. So, for them, the idea of a fun time hanging out with guests is getting stuffed with food, laying down to sleep, waking up, getting stuffed again, laying down to sleep, and performing the vicious cycle over and over.

That's what my obese cat does.

Well, your Garfield and Indians have a lot in common.

While we don't eat a ton and lay around in other people's houses in the name of holiness, having people over for a feast, maybe a prayer, and then candle-lighting and fireworks is tradition. Just sitting around and talking and maybe being grateful is considered an "activity." It's a mesh between Thanksgiving and Christmas, in some ways, in that you're with family, eat a lot, and sometimes exchange gifts and pay respects to our Gods.

The past three years I've been away from home for Diwali, otherwise my parents would always have a small prayer with just our family, have some sweets. I just know it for being the one day i have to be vegetarian. My dad is vegetarian and my mom is too, for the most part. Just me and my sister suffer for one day. :D

Our Temple has fireworks that night as well, after a prayer so we used to go to that as well.
