Educational Toys

[S O F I]

Any of you familiar with educational toys for engineering and computer science? Basically toys were designed for kids to promote engineering and computer science skills. My nephew's a little over a year old and I'd really like to get him interested from a young age. My half-brother has a mild cause of autism so I think toys like this would really work well for him. A while back I came across a kickstarter-funded campaign for something like this but half of that shit never even ends up getting funded.

I am also interested in these bits for my son. Nothing stands out so far.

I did buy the Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 kit. But, in all honesty, I am an Electronics engineer and it isn't quite as simple as it should be. The programming side is fine. But the build instructions aren't great and I once spent 4 hours putting a robot together. It is used by students at MIT though, so it's pretty good. But not for a 1 year old.

Then there are the bits on kickstarter. Quite a few of them. There were 2 that caught my eye.

There was another which seemed to be aimed at the younger user and was modular robot based, but I can't find the bookmark now.


And then there are the Arduino based kits, which are a bit more advanced and not very cheap.

That Primo project is the only one of interest to me but I can't buy something that ships in August 2014.

My front facing camera is broken. Not that I ever sent selfies anyway but, I don't do shit is really the reason. I go through phases of going out a lot and then being a recluse. You can still snap me though. They make me chuckle.
