Does anyone watch Initial D?

^ Are you talking about the live action movie? If so, then yes, I have it. It's alright. It's cool because it's real action, but I prefer to watch the anime since the movie is corny and they left a lot out, since they pretty much tried to compress three seasons into two hours.

I really hope there ISN'T a sequel. The first one was poorly written, and a second one wouldn't make much sense since it would have to encapsulate the Fourth Stage, which revolves around Takumi and Keisuke (who was left out of the movie). It wouldn't work. Plus it's a Japanese cartoon-based film that was done by Chinese people in Cantonese. There's a slight lack of authenticity. Also, the only characters that are even close to how they look in the anime/manga are Bunta and Itsuki. Other than that, they were just Chinese actors and actresses who only resemble the characters in the sense that they're all Asian.

Yeah Ive seen all of the anime. Its good if you like cars. Everything that happens is kinda feasible as well, though they do push it as far as realism goes.

Kozou's GTR best looking car in the series.

You know, one of the sickest scenes ever was in Fourth Stage when Keisuke was racing God-Foot, and they both went around opposite sides of the cone at the same time and drifted toward each other... that was pretty sweet

You just mentioned my favourite moment in the whole series :)

At such times, the normally half-annoying J-pop actually becomes a decent tune.

IMO 4th stage was the best anyway. Looked definitely the best and it lost the sillyness sometimes found in 1. Stage 2 was good but kinda short and 3 is just a anime movie with two good battles (Kyochi and Kogashiwa) and a lot of filler.

Is there going to be a stage 5? I believe they sorta sidelined the whole Initial D anime thing but didnt really cut it. Between the other stages there were years of dev. as well.

And the live action movie is actually how I was alerted to Initial D. I thought the movie was decent but the general storyline, characters, development etc in the anime itself is so much better.

I agree, though I always thought some stuff in Fourth Stage was a little unbelievable, like Takumi beating to Tomo (the professional driver from the Toudou school) because a gopher or something ran across the street, or him beating God-Hand, the clearly superior driver, because he threw up. It makes sense, but it's not too possible. No driver would intentionally drag a race like that out to eight rounds, plus their tires would've had the wires coming out by then.

There has to be. I don't read the manga, but I hear reports of what happens on various websites. I think one of the first races in what is to become Fifth Stage is Project D versus a Miata and an Evo VII. Obviously there is more focus on Takumi's battle, which is said to be interesting because the Miata driver is actually better at braking than Takumi (remember that anyone who can out-brake Takumi can beat him, which is what he says when he raced against his dad in the Subaru). Someone watching the battle says that aerodynamics plays a huge role, which is true. The Miata driver at some point feels that he's dominating, so he pushes his rearview mirror away so he doesn't see what's in it. At the same time, Takumi turns his headlights off not to do the blind attack (since it wouldn't work anyway since his opponent can't see his mirror anymore), but because he figured that with his headlights down, it might make him just marginally faster since the pop-up design makes it a little less aerodynamic. He does get slightly quicker, then he tries to take the inside. Since the Miata driver wasn't really looking behind him, he gets surprised when Takumi is taking the inside, so his line changes and he goes a little outside, but his wing hits the wall and breaks off, which is key because FR cars like the Miata with such good weight balance tend to oversteer (which is something that Ryosuke mentions during the race), and the Miata eventually spins out and loses since it doesn't have as much downforce over the rear end to prevent oversteer.

Supposedly, there are two guys watching who jump in an NSX and drive away (possibly a future opponent), but the exciting part is that you see a guy in a Supra and Kai Kogashiwa (from Third Stage) in a new Toyota MR-S, who they are racing against at this very moment in the manga.

Cool! I've always missed the higher end cars like NSX's in the series. Although its realistic that they're using cars lower in the pecking order, I always thought that especially an NSX would make an awesome opponent.

And those battles sound typically Initial D. Possible, but pushing it. I just watch it for the races anyway.

^ Oh, whoops... I didn't even realize I typed "lost" when I should've typed "won." I don't know why I did that, I know those episodes quite well. But yes, Takumi beat both of them, but what I meant to say was that it was quite unrealistic for him to have won for those reasons.

On this Initial D forum I post at, supposedly the manga (comics) with the end of Takumi's battle against Kai Kogashiwa (for the second time, though now he drives a current MR-S) is at hand. Supposedly Takumi's car should have higher handling limits since it had a roll cage installed, which sometimes has the effect of increasing cornering capability along with the added safety. And next, we'll see Keisuke go against the Supra.

sounds good. as much as i like the ae86, seeing takumi in a new car would be pretty cool. it would have to be something light and agile. but also rwd.

On those same Initial D forums I was talking about, there's a lengthy thread dating back to mid-2006 that discusses this, and it still gets brought up. It seems like a lot of people seem to think it would be cool for Takumi to drive an S2000 seeing how it's the only car to really beat him, plus it's similar to the 86 since it's a high-revving FR and he's ridden in it. Most other people say that he should eventually take over Bunta's Impreza, though we all know the 86 will be his car until the end, or at least almost until the end.

^ Just as a quick little update, I read that the current manga has Kai Kogashiwa losing to Takumi. His MR-S spun out for some reason (which I believe should be explained very soon). So the RX-7 vs. Supra uphill battle is next.
