Cutco is a product that makes one of the finest kitchen cutlery's. Some of you might have heard about it.

So as a sales person, I have to either do a presentation or sell their products to the customers, and my customers have to be people I know- friends.

Here is some of their products:
Homemake +8 Set = $749 (Includes 10 tools, 8 different knifes; paring knife, trimmer, butcher knife, carver, slicer, french knife, spatula spreader, petite knife and wood block and cutting board.)
Ultimate Set +12 = $2,911 (12 pieces of different knifes.
Gallery +6 Set = $686 (7 different knifes plus 6 table knifes)
2 3/4 inch Paring Knife = $45
Trimmer = $48
9 1/4 inch French Chef Knife = $110

The requirements are that a customers has to be 28 plus, married and own a house. lol.

All the people I know are like college students and shit, I know very few business man who fall in this category, who is married and has a house and shit. So the manager is like, well don't they have parents? I say yes but they're all cheap. I said I doubt anybody would pay $749 for a set of knifes or $89 for just a butcher knife. So he is like well you don't know that, thats not your job to figure that out. Your job is to just do the demo, the presentation and show the products to them, if they buy it good for you and if not, you'll still make base pay of $18.25 for each demo. I said yea but before they even agree for me to come to their place and show them the products, they gonna ask for the price. So hes like, no don't talk about the prices over the phone, just set up the appointment with them.

lol I am this close to walking out because I will never gonna sell shit because no one in their right mind would pay $749 for a set of knifes. oh, the company gave me the samples to show to the customers and I left deposit of $147 for this samples. It contains a paring knife, trimmer, spatula spreader, petite carver, turning fork, butcher knife, french chef knife and table knife. All together 8 knifes and a super shears that cuts coins by the way. When I show this to my parents they pwned me. They burst out laughed at me saying for $147 thats a joke.

Am I the only one who thinks these prices are extremely high and no one will buy them?

Wow, cutco, I haven't heard of that names in years.

I worked for cutco, about 8 years ago.
Lol, and the base pay increased by 4 dollars from what I was getting.

The thing with the job is, nobody's gonna pay that shit for knifes. I know, I did it. That was a quick temp job for me inbetween me getting a real job. Back then, you could easily fool the system. All they asked for was for, the name + address of the peoples house you went for, for appointments. And for each name + address + time log, you got paid. Cuz the demo took like 35-45 mins, but they'd "pay" you for the full hour.

So I banged out a list of names + address of people I knew and told them, if they ever called, just to say yes, I did the demo for them, but knives aren't the thing they are looking for.

Made a few hundreds, milked the system for as long as I could, found my other job and banged out.

Nobody's gonna pay that much for that shit. I still have my demo set, good knives, I agree with them, but pay that much? Hell no. (Well technically I did pay the holding fee..that I never saw). But 8 years later and the knives are still good. I use em everyday.

My advice, same as darkies.

Find another job but bang out the names and get paid for some ish in the mean time.

I think my first day at the "check" in, some girl was like "omg, i sold a whole set!!" *roll eyes*

I have a few friends who have tried selling knives, same deal, just maybe a different company, maybe the same. It didn't work out for them. Oh yeah, some also sold like $1500 vacuums and shit.

I would never work those jobs because I can't sell something I don't believe in. I could sell coke, because I believe in its effect. I can't sell some kitchen set for $800 because I'd tell the people who I'm selling it to, "Yo, I'd never buy this shit".

Yea its pretty much the same system here. They're asking for the customer name, telephone and the address. I'm guessing they'll check after the demos to see if I actually did do the demo.

I'm not planning to stay any longer either. This is my first week. I don't wanna leave with no money. I wanna make a few demos before handing back the samples to the company. So I am hitting whitepages and calling all sorts of people.

The manager is really wacko, makes me wanna roll my eyes every time he speaks. He is like just call the people you know, friends high school mates, college mate or their parents, lol and hes like dont tell them about the prices, just tell them that you want to come to their house and show them the free samples. I'm like dudes, I'm not your typical "happy-face omg this is so great" type of person to call up people and tell them I wanna come to their apt just to do some talking. Neither are those people I hang out with. I said, if I do that, they'll look at me in a funny way afterwards.

The manager actually just called me to check in how I was doing. Apparently I had scheduled two demos today which I forgot. So he was like, so how was the demos? I'm like 'um what demos' hes like 'I see in my sheet you had two of them scheduled for today, so how did it go?' I'm like oh I must've made mistake, sorry dudes. So he then went on the whole preaching thing 'oh you haven't done anything, you haven't called people, look at oothers, they have already sold Homemaker Sets' and what not.

I'd tell the people who I'm selling it to, "Yo, I'd never buy this shit".
Pretty much my attitude when I told about these products to some people. But I have to pretend I like it and I would buy it. But I can't so I won't.

LOL.
Yeah, my "manager" would call me to check up on things too. He'd be like a motivational person to see my progress.

On my first "real day" I had to step inside the a booth and set up my "very first appointment". I picked up the phone, called a friend and read what I was supposed to, he was like wtf is going on? I couldn't answer, cuz I was being watched lol.

I later called him and was like dude my bad for that shit, I had to do it.

Do what SiGh said, bounce, but keep the set you put a deposit on and sell it on ebay.

I almost fell out off my chair lol.

Thats crazy because I didn't have to actually do that booth thing and I wasn't being watched. I can imagine how embarrassing that would have been. That shit feels so embarrassing to do something you're not comfortable with, talk in a funny happy-face tone and the friend on the phone going like 'dude what the fuck is you talking about?'

I almost got reported just now lol for calling late. I called this woman from whitepages and as I'm reading the phone approach, she goes like ''wait wait stop....do you know you're not suppose to call after 9?' Im like um, is this the bad time? I'm sorry, can I call you back tomorrow morning? shes like ''no no....can I have your name and number so I can report you?' and I hung up lol.

What a idiot for asking my name and number like I was really gonna give her so she could report me. like ''sure, you want my social number as well? cause I can give you that too'

Well, then the job isn't for you. I'm the same way, it's the European in me, but I'm not wasting my time fooling myself.

I mean if you got yourself in the situation, might as well flip a few things, make a couple dollars and then get out you know.

When I got the job, I knew I didn't wanna do this, but it was an easy way to make a few hundred whilst searching for another job.

They also give you this '10 day fast start' award to motivate you and get you going. What it is that if you sell products worth of $500 in first 10 days, they give you ice cream scoop lol. If you sell up to $1000 in first ten days they give you fishermans knife and theres bunch of levels. The last level is 10th level and you have to sell $10,000 in first ten days and one of the top heads of the company will take you out to the dinner and clubs in a limo and shit.

The manager also displayed some ex representatives works and one of the rep made $27,000 sales in ten days. lol. This is so bull shit made up crap to mativate people. Nobody could have ever sold that amount in ten days. No way lol.

It doesnt sound impossible man, thats basically 1 set of knives a day. You just need a good network of numbers to call.

It's a hustle like everything else, stop bitching about it and actually make an effort to either a) play by their rules or b) use the rules to your advantage and make some quick money like SiGh said. Or c) Quit.

If youre not enjoying it, either do something to enjoy it (make money) or get out but stop wasting your energy whining about how much you dont like it, DO SOMETHING!

Bitching about situations never resolves them or improves them. Focus on how to better the situation or take advantage of it.

^Well said.

You gotta scheme my nigga, you already said you don't plan on doing this forever, just a job until you get something better.

So flip it, make as much money as you can by making up names and bail out. Doing it the honest way isn't gonna happen, unless you really really believe in it and think you can do it.

Let em keep the 147. Keep ur knives. I use mines everyday I cook/cut, they good knives.
