Brown Nosing

So, I got this situation @ work:

My job is union.

Starting pay rate is minimum wage, then the next level is at least $3.00 more an hr + more benefits and hours. It's supposed to be that seniority moves up first, but it hasn't been that way recently. Apparently the managers are using bullshit excuses to promote them, when in reality, those people where kissing ass and begging for hours and stuff.

Anyway,

I don't brown nose. I do my job, sometimes more if I see fit. For example, if it is not in my job description, I do more if I feel I have to to complete my job assignment b/c I know what it entails and what is expected.

But I don't brown nose.

I specifically got 2 workers that brown nose up the ass.

I have seniority, yet THEY got promoted.

They don't do the job any better than me, they got the same type of schedule. The only difference is, is that they bring muffins and shit to work for our department.

Since they've gotten promoted, they no longer do it. (SMH).

There is a possibility of another promotion offering...coming up...

and I got like 5 co-workers higher than me wondering why I didn't get offered a spot a long time ago (before the brown nosers).

Would you brown nose in my situation to better yourself?

I don't think I will b/c I don't feel that it is the correct thing to do, but I want to see what you guys think.

Promotions based on seniority are ineffective to begin with. You should be promoted based on merit and potential, among other things, but not because you've worked there longer.

With that said, I don't condone brown-nosing and I wouldn't do it.

There are people in any companies (but especially smaller to average) that do their jobs great for 40 years and still don't get promoted and it happens on regular basis.

Personally if I thought that I deserve to be promoted but wouldn't I would change the company I work for.

I would mention it to your immediate superviser, even if they're the one promoting these brown nosers. Maybe get them worried you might complain higher up.

On the bright side, these ass-kissers are ususally the first to get laid off when lay-offs happen.

I hate brown noses so much. You keep doing your thing though Shadow. It may seem unfair now, but hard work is like Karma it comes back to you, and it will pay off.

I like your Karma suggestion however I must disagree.

I think you have to look at the whole situation, look at your job, how long you been there, your experiance that you gained etc.....

If you KNOW, you should have got promoted over the people with shit on thier nose, then I say the universe is trying to tell you to wake the fuck up B.

Look at from the perspective of, if you did get promoted, would it really make you happy? Or are you more worried about it because someone else got promoted over you.

This is the door that has opened for you, the one that says, leave this fucked up company, you will be appreciated more elsewhere.

If you can, start something on your own, working for other people is never going to let you get finacially free, all your hard work and effort your putting in there, do you want to come to the age of 60 the relaise you could have been working for yourself the whole time?

This is the eye opener you need to take note of, after this, even if you get promoted I almost guarantee you won't be happy. The damage has been done.

Or it simply means that your supervisors like you doing the shittier job. That happens especially if you work too much, too good and you do more work than you are supposed to - then why should they promote you in the first place? They will try to find different ways of motivating you to keep up the good work. I mean some managers, since a lot of others would have you promoted. That's why I said that you should change the company you work for.
