can anyone school me on these cars? are they good? i know they are the top of the line integra and all but should i buy one? there is a dealership that has one here in town right now and i've been wanting to trade me car in for a minute now. right now i can either dump a grand and get my car fixed or trade it in and put that money towards a new ride. i know this car wont be there long, i just noticed it a few days ago.

It depends on how much it costs. But price aside, Integra Type-Rs are pretty bad ass cars, even by today's standards. The motor is pretty peaky, but it's good enough to pull off pretty quick quarter-mile times (14.5 seconds is one of the better times I've seen, which is about as fast as a run-of-the-mill Mazda RX-8). But straight-line acceleration isn't really what it's about, as it is arguably one of the best-handling FWD cars ever made, especially considering the fact that it was first introduced ten years ago. A lot of people are still after these cars, as no other reasonably priced Acura/Honda product can mess with it, especially on autocross courses. And on top of that, its fuel economy was decent (25 city/30 highway mpg) for being such a high-strung track car. Ones in good condition still command a pretty good price.

I'll put it this way... I was considering getting one as a "fun" daily-driven beater (easier maintenance, better fuel economy, no modding really necessary), but it wasn't in my budget to do so. Trust me, many Evo/STI guys who have experienced the car at some point in their lives would still snatch one up in a heartbeat if they could. If it's in good condition and a decent price, I'd get it if I were you. Just be prepared for having to rev it up high to pick up speed... not to mention the fact that it's a commonly stolen/vandalized vehicle.

well the price i think is about 11,000 and the body looked to be great. however, this was doing a quick look at it on my lunch break and didn't have time to really get a good inspection of it and ask the saleman anything. i was really trying to see if it was an auto of manual and thank god it was a 5 speed. it is yellow....still not sure how i feel about that. i'll know more tomorrow morning. thanks for your input, i may have more questions for you come tomorrow :D

My friend had one in High School, we loved it. There isn't really anything bad to say about the car. For what it is, it is perfect.

well...it is my new car :D

i don't know if i got taken, got a decent deal, or a good one but let me try to run it down.

2000 with 76000 miles. the guy who had it before me took very good care of it. clean carfax report. new brakes and tires. interior is so damn clean it is amazing. body is amazing shape too. i couldn't and still have not found anything wrong with it. the dealership just tinted the windows.

they were asking 15,900. i tired to negotiate but the manager of the dealership would not budge on the price, mainly due to the car and how rare it is. they gave me 2000 grand for my 94 cadillac eldorado with about 130,000 miles on it, that had some minor body damage, peeling paint and a window that did not roll down. I was expecting about 500 so i felt good about that. i put 2000 grand down to lower my rates. so all in all i owe about 12,500 on it after all the other taxes etc.

i knew this car wasn't going to last long. some high school kid was already looking at it earlier in the week and was going to bring his dad back today to look at it. too bad for him i get up at the crack of dawn.

awww now i have to shop for a stereo :)

Congratulations! As weird as it sounds, I'm kind of jealous, I would love to have a Type-R... that would be such a fun daily-driven car that could still top 30 mpg. (I've been driving my dad's old and unused 1994 Isuzu Rodeo... it averages a whopping 14 mpg overall, but luckily I only drive it to work, which is less than four miles from where I live... I currently work in a not-so-great area and I've been suspicious of a few people, so I've chosen not to take my car there anymore.) Do take some pictures.

What happened with the price? You first said it you thought it was $11k. So were you able to get them to lower it from $15,900 at all? Or was that pretty much the sale price?

Regarding the fuel... first of all, if the car is in pretty good condition as far as you can tell, then it's reasonable to assume that the previous owner(s) took at least decent care of the car and probably at least used the correct grade of fuel. You yourself should ALWAYS use premium with that car, unless you are at a gas station that happens to be out of premium... in which case you'd just put in enough to drive to the next station with premium. You might be able to get away with using regular in a GS-R (though premium is still recommended), but the Type-R's engine has some pretty serious engine hardware (full race treatment... i.e., forged connecting rods, forged/polished pistons, etc.) with a pretty high compression ratio (10.6:1) and redline (8500 rpm) that needs every single octane rating when exploiting it. Don't get cheap with the car in that way, otherwise your engine will pull timing and possibly have long-term damage. That's the last thing you'd want when you have a Type-R.

Congratulations again on the purchase!

thanks dude

with the price, i thought it was around 11k but that was driving by doing a quick glance diong 45mph either to work or to get lunch. thinking back i can't really be sure i even saw a price but there was no price listed on the car when i went yesterday or on friday to take a look during my break.

they wouldn't budge at all on the price 15,900 was his asking price at the moment. he said that he might have ended up pumping the price and considering doing that. they hadn't even had it listed on their website yet or on any other internet sites. i tried to get him just to go down to 15000 at least but he wouldn't do it. however he did give me more than a resonable amount on my trade in for my cadillac. i don't think i would have gotten 2000 for it any place and i may have gotten that much if i sold it out right.

Nice man. I'm jealous too, I love those cars. At least you have your head in the right place and you are already thinking about a new deck. What do you plan on getting?

Nice choice, man. That's a seriously cool car. I'm not so sure about the yellow but I think the car can carry it.

And like Deez said, put proper petrol in it. Those engines are pieces of serious kit and they deserve to be treated with respect.

Good stuff!

Make sure you got a killswitch, club and a clutch lock. These things are probaly one of the most stolen cars for chop shops. Everything on these cars can get stripped and resold being so rare, from the engine, recaro seats, to the smaller shift boots and cf climate control.

i'm not trying to go all out crazy just something simple but still cool. i'll add speakers probably next month. i can't decide if i want to buy a new sub or use my old ones. i'll probably just use one 12" but i will need a new amp for sure.

Actually somewhat true. The clutch lock (which I've had for almost ten years) is pretty effective, though not undefeatable. But it takes quite a bit of effort to get past it. Any combination of that, an alarm or kill switch is a pretty good idea. Or if you wanted, just yank out your ECU every time you leave your car for an extended period of time, then people can't drive away in it. (Hypothetically speaking, someone could still throw it on a flatbed truck and take it, but that applies to pretty much anything.)

yeah the clutch lock is good. i used to leave my car in the streets with that, the wheel club, and taking my ecu out and it never gotten stolen. and thats in newark. the only other way i see someone taking it if you do all that is by flat bed.
