A "What if" thread

Again, yes - do you remember these old school "what if 2pac was alive" threads from back in the days?

Now I was listening to Snoop Dogg from back in the 2pac days and then to Snoop Dogg right now, then I was listening to old 2pac albums, then All Eyez on me and.. well, you could see how Snoop's career and image was changing over the time. Listening to Doggystyle and then Doggfather and then his later albums, listening to his lyrics- it was to be expected where it's going. I had a feeling that 2pac's music was heading in a similar direction, if not worse, more 50 cent-ish (plus talent and charisma). Rapping about money, bitches and alcohol, his music sounded much more 'commercial' (for that time).
I had a very strange feeling that if 2pac was alive I'd hear "David Guetta feat. 2pac", "Rihanna feat 2pac" and such, having his verses featured on most popular artists hits on the radio in best case scenario. His 'legendary and spiritual' image would be gone since it simply wouldn't survive these days as it could in the 90s, people wouldn't dig it today. Actually it could backfire at him and as terrible as it sounds if it wasn't for his death he might come up as cheesy later on.
Of course 2pac could pick different paths, he could stop rapping like some rappers from the 90s but I just don't see it. Same as going non-mainstream.
I'd see him being like Snoop or Eminem these days. Come to think of it I kind-of understand Afeni trying to release his albums with popular artists since that's what she probably pictured he might've do if he was alive.
What are your thoughts?

All Eyes on Me was commercial.

I seen some dvd a while ago that he told producers and the outlawz that he didn't even like All Eyes On Me.

He really liked 7 Day Theory and thought that shitted on both double discs. He also, (though quoted before All Eyes on Me came out) thought his favorite album was Me Against the World.

I feel that you're wrong. I feel that he would have taken the Eminem approach and released a few albums every so and so years, but more so making MORE movies than Eminem. He probably would be trying to make movies like Denzel. Either way, I dont think he would have sold his soul.

You're forgetting, Tupac isn't just an aritst. There are very few of those these days. And the rap aritsts that were, don't have a background or education like he did with the Black Panters and so forth.

... Im still bumping Better Days and Until The End of Time, which don't sound nothing too commercial to me.

Me Against the World was 2Pac's pain. All Eyez On Me was 2Pac's anger. Makaveli was working towards figuring things out. Once 2Pac got to a place in life where he could move past his own pain and anger and focus on what really mattered, he would have surely moved into politics and activism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVDHHAZhcIo

LOL @ politics. Tupac was NOT that guy. I know we all entertained that notion when we were twelve, but be serious here.

and when some kids were 12, they didn't imagine Tyrese writing books like "How to Get Out of Your Own Way" either.

Tupac was smart and was about politics a lot bro. He was that guy and that's what seperate him from just being a rapper.

No rapper was talking about delores tucker and stuff.

No.

I love Tupac's music. We all do. But "getting into politics" was not a realistic path for him. It's 100% laughable. The guy was a great rapper, a genius I'd say, but Barack Obama he wasn't. He wasn't even Al Franken.

How many tatted up high school dropout ex-cons do you know of working in politics?

^^"getting into politics" does not necessarily mean running for a political position.

How many tatted up high school dropout ex-cons do you know hanging out with politicians?

:)

Exactly, being involved in politics doesn't mean he's president. The black panthers were political. Activists are political. Most politicians are front men for an organization behind them, and especially in the states I hear a lot there are political machines that find a poster candidate to run and drop them into the system. Listen to the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVDHHAZhcIo he says "WE" will have our own political party. To listen to Tupac's music and his words and not think he would be an activist in politics if he lived long enough to move past his adolescent bullshit is crazy talk. He'd be 40 years old, what you think he'd be beefing with Cash Money?

something a la David Banner and Immortal Technique in terms of political activism. Likely on a bigger scale because of Tupac's fame and resources.

The sad thing is that Tupac never would have made it to create more album material. He would have inevitably landed back in prison (even after that night while violating his probation with the Orlando Anderson fight). And if he had been on the outside awhile, he would have been killed. He always knew what was coming for him. We have to appreciate the short time we had with him because that's all we were ever going to have.

That decision to get involved in the Vegas beat-down was the beginning of the end for him. Weird to think that if he wore a bullet proof vest he might have survived, but would still have gone to jail for parole violation. I wonder what would have happened if he simply followed his instinct, and didn't go to Vegas in the first place.
