[Beckham will get £128 million over 5 years which is..£492,000 a week.]
Ex-England captain David Beckham is to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and join US side LA Galaxy on 5-year deal worth £128m.
The 31-year-old's future has been the subject of intense speculation since manager Fabio Capello arrived at the Bernabeu - the move is sure to be seen as one last big pay day for one of world sport's biggest names and mark the end of his England career.
Beckham, who has not represented his country since Steve McClaren succeeded Sven-Goran Eriksson as boss, can look forward to picking up around $250 million (£128 million) over the next five years.
He said: 'This week Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract for a further two seasons.
'After discussing several options with my family and my advisors to either stay here in Madrid or join other major British and European teams I have decided to join LA Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year.'
Beckham, who joined Real Madrid from Manchester United for £24.5 million in 2003, is vowing to fight for his place in the Real first team between now and the end of the Spanish season.
He added: 'I have enjoyed my time in Spain enormously and I am extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to play for such a great team and their amazing fans.
'I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own.
'For the rest of this season I will continue to give 100 per cent to my coach, team-mates and fans as I believe Fabio Capello will bring this club and its supporters the success they truly deserve.'
Beckham, who played 94 times for England, will become the most famous player to sign up for Major League Soccer since it began in 1996.
