Rumor has it that Jamie Foxx is slated to appear in the movie about the life of Prince. Check out these photos that were gathered and watermarked by TMZ.
According to the poster for the movie, it can be expected in theaters in June 2010. Reportedly, Warner Brothers has issued warnings to those displaying the posters along with the Jamie Foxx photo in Prince garb.

Dear Jamie Foxx -you had better pull the performance of a lifetime out of your ass for this one. Anything less than stellar is NOT good enough. I'm talking 100000x the level of acting you displayed in "Ray".

Don't fuck with me, Foxx.

Watch all the people come out of the woodwork when this movie drops like "Yeah Prince is awesome I've always loved him" - motherfuckas don't know about His Royal Badness.

That might be true. He could definitely do it himself. He still looks more or less the same as he did 25 years ago. And that picture of Jamie Foxx is in a "Purple Rain" tour costume, which was 25 years ago.

It is. Prince has never had any surgery. If you compare a picture of him side by side you can tell. Nothing has been altered, he just looks good. Any promo photo you see, he probably had a lot of makeup on.

He's pretty much always worn a fair amount.

why would they even cast foxx? i mean, he resembled ray charles, so i can see that (and he did a great job), but he in no way comes close to looking like prince.

^^ I don't know what shade Casey is but I saw Prince at Cheapo in Minneapolis, wearing 3mm of foundation and his purple platform boots with 4 inch heels. The man looks whiter than Bill O'Reilly.

Yeah he's a master of disguises with makeup.

His natural shade is:

But if he's been going heavy on the makeup he can be as light as this:

Most of the time he looks somewhere in between the two.

Casey, you and I can both agree that looks doesn't really matter. Having Prince's long lost twin in this movie won't help it if he can't act. Therefore, I'd have to say that a person with similar knowledge to Casey, who knows more about Prince than Prince does, would do a better job of living Prince - because that's what acting is.

Lets get real though. We all know Casey would be hugely disappointed with this film. Jamie Foxx is talented but he hasn't shown anything Ray-like since his Oscar win and I just can't see him doing well with that Prince aura. To me it's like Chris Tucker playing MJ. It's like nahhhhhhh

Agreed with all of this. I'm not a professional actor - but I'm certain I could do a better job than Foxx. He's just not cut out for the role.

Assuming this is real, the executive decision to cast Foxx probably went like this "He's black. He can sing. He did well in 'Ray' and is known. He won an Oscar".

That was probably it, and those are some seriously shitty reasons to cast him.

That Chris Tucker comparison is spot on. Those motherfuckers probably WOULD cast him as MJ as well, lolz.

It also seems, by these pictures that the movie focuses on Prince's commercial peak with "Purple Rain". That's the "Purple Rain" font used on the title poster, that font was never used on any other Prince album, the tag line is "Let's Go Crazy", which of course is the opening song to the album and movie, and the outfit depicted in that second picture is an outfit worn on the Purple Rain tour.

But the whole "Purple Rain" era lasted just over a year, from late 1983 to early 1985. Aside from the album and movie themselves, the music videos contained imagery and clips from both the movie and the tour, and there was a live concert officially released on VHS from this tour. It's the most overexposed part of Prince's entire 30 year career, naturally due to it being such a commercially successful behemoth.

But it's not the most interesting part of Prince's career. It's not the most creative part of Prince's career. It's not the musical or visual peak of his career in artistic terms. Hell, the movie "Purple Rain" itself is already a fictionalized version of certain parts of Prince's lifestory up to that point. So focusing on that era is just unnecessary. It doesn't need to be done.

This whole thing just screams of business and money, not art, and not truth. I guess time will tell but clearly this is going to be nothing special. Most biopics aren't and I enjoy the genre overall. Walk The Line was great at telling the Johnny Cash story. What's Love Got To Do With It was great at telling Tina Turner's story. Heck, even the TV series "The Jacksons: An American Dream" did a decent job at covering the story of the Jackson Five and Jacksons story. Selena was an incredible movie too.

Then on the other hand you have piece of shit garbage ass movies like NOTORIOUS.

Sure it's premature to make any sort of judgement right now, especially considering there's still a possibility that this could all be a big hoax (although something tells me it isnt considering that TMZ and prince.org were both made to take down the pictures....don't know who gave that order).....but this shit is off to a bad start, and if they fuck this up, they're doing an injustice to one of the greatest musical icons of all time.

And why are they doing this now? He's not old, or dying, or sick. He still releases great albums that sell a ton on pretty much a yearly basis. He's still quite publically visible with huge regular tours and TV appearances.

And yet it's been 3 years since James Brown died......where's the JB biopic? Where's the Marvin Gaye biopic? Stevie and Prince are on a pretty much equal level as far as success and impact on music, but Stevie is from the older generation to Prince and had his biggest successes in the decade prior to Prince's.....where the fuck is the Stevie Wonder movie?

It just doesn't make sense.

LMAO. You who has no previous acting experience, could do a better job than Mr Jamie foxx the oscar winner? Lol, i think your getting ahead of yourself there. Im thinking without any acting experience you would struggle to look convincing as an extra on Eastenders, never mind a starring role in a hollywood blockbuster.

On a side note, i think Jamie foxx is a tit. Especially after this comment after MJ death.
"We want to celebrate this black man. He belongs to us and we shared him with everybody else."
Imagine if Madonna had died and george clooney had said " We want to celebrate this white woman. She belongs to us and we shared her with everybody else" There would be rioting in the streets! Fuckin clown.

Jamie Foxx is the second male in history to receive two acting Oscar nominations in the same year for two different movies, Collateral and Ray. The only other male actor to achieve this was Al Pacino.
Casey you think in time you could possibly make it a trio?

I never said I don't have previous acting experience. I said I don't consider myself a professional actor. I've actually done some small time TV and short movie stuff and everyone involved with those projects thought I did a good job. I've been offered movie roles too, but the things I was offered required a minimum of three months filming - which I was unable to commit to at the time due to tours having been planned.

It's an area I'd be interested in moving more into, if I want to take a break from music at any point.

And yeah, for the record I think I could do a better job than him. As Salty said, it's all about knowing enough about someone and their personality to be able to convincingly portray them. I've studied Prince and everything about him for years.

^its one thing knowing more about a character and how you relate to him and another to act it. you can know a song by heart and not be able to sing it properly because lack of talent in that specific area.

i cant see jamie foxx play prince. however, i think he is the best candidate out there. so... yeah.
