CPS Good or Bad?

Child Protective Services provide protection to children from any type of abuse.

But what if there is a large number of workers and no actual abuse?...then they try and make cases.

IMO, they are more good than bad.

(Though, i am talking about a case that i know that rose up because there was a small fight between some people during a party where children where present.)

One of the main reasons is because they have to keep a case alive to keep getting money. Therefore, they will insist on putting the case on hold to prolong it and or taking advantage of people whom don't know their rights and try and build a case.

For example, letting them in your house is letting them gather evidence against YOU, when all you are doing is trying to be cooperative. When all its doing is letting people impede into your life.

Some say that It doesn't matter because the good outweighs the bad, (Good obviously being taking abused children to a "better place"). But imo, an abused child is obvious to teachers and child cares and that's the only time those people should be involved.

What do you guys think? I want your perspective.

Are child protective services REALLY needed or should they stay in office and not build cases, but rather work on a case that is court ordered?

An abused child is not necessarily obvious to teachers. That's a dangerous assumption to make.

What do you mean by making cases? Do they abuse the children and then accuse the parents? I think not.

If there are too many workers and not enough cases, then the workers should either be allocated to other services or be laid off.

Well, they make cases by getting police reports that says that children where present or that it was a child home then they have the ability to investigate it (according to the CPS worker). We believe they can manipulate you and/or the judge by saying something like "if u don't cooperate i will take your child....or parent refuses to cooperate, etc." it will look bad. so they fuck you over by making a case to avoid being laid off.

I mean, u can have a perfectly good home but if something does happen (which in case does b/c no family is perfect,) then its not fair.

and i agree with what u said about being laid off...and about my assumption.

i guess im just mad @ the stuff thats happening to my friend that i have known my whole life. its not his fault some friends were acting dumb. now the dude is living with me b/c my friend was the one that invited everyone to the party so he is said to be the one that put his child in danger.

EDIT: this is not the first time i heard this either.

I have two examples bc I used to volunteer with a social services group.

One family was a mother and father and they had 5 children all living in a basement. The mom was pregnant and both the mother and father were addicted to heroin. They were on welfare and their work program (to receive welfare) was to go to a methadone clinic. When the mother had the new baby it was addicted to drugs. They didn't take the baby away. CPS never got involved. I thought when a baby was addicted to drugs the hospital had to automatically notify CPS but that's not the case and the baby is rarely if ever taken away from the mom. At least in Ohio.

2nd scenario....Mother and father and one child. Mother is crazy (receives social security) she accuses the father of domestic violence. He goes to jail. She admits she lied. She gets away with it because she's on medication for being crazy. CPS goes to the house and makes the child strip naked so they can check for bruises and abuse. They find nothing. Still keep the case open.

I went home pissed everyday. I tried to ask why shit worked like this and no one could tell me.

In those cases, i cant see why CPS doesnt do anything or try to be more involved in.

The first example should be more looked into...but sadly its up to the doctor to call CPS in that situation.

Though, i think CPS should be digging up records like that if they dig up police reports too.

i am a counselor (social worker) at an alternative for school for students with emotional disturbances, and i've had to make quite a few reports to CPS. the thing that we have found is that our county's CPS doesn't really do anything.
