Working out late night, drunk?

Lately, when I come home from the studio or club, at around 3 or 4am, sometimes intoxicated, I like to jump on my home gym and do about 3 sets, 10 reps each, of a heavy weight, on the vertical bench press.

Two questions. What are the effects of working out while drunk, and is it alright to work out and then shower and go to sleep?

Answer: You can easily get hurt because A) You're intoxicated and b) You need to stretch and warm up the muscles.

Answer: No. Sleeping in you're sweat makes you more manly.

The difference between a successful person & others is:
Not a lack of strength
Not a lack of knowledge
But rather in a lack of will

True you can't really get hurt, but it all depends how intoxicated you are. If you are flat out drunk one little mistake like bench pressing can cause broken bones i.e. chest, ribs, face. It will make a good lol story here though if it happens. lol

Haha no not that drunk. Just tipsy.

My real question isnt so much the dangers or if its possible to do it, Im asking what effect if any alcohol has on building muscle.

Well you won't be hydrated because of the alcohol so you'll tire a lot quicker. Effects of building muscle? Not much really, just drink a bunch of water after a workout so you won't have a hang over in the morning and a sore body.

In addition to the things already mentioned, alcohol significantly slows down the protein synthesis.

As long as there is alcohol in your system your muscles will grow less than they would if there was none, basically. The hours just after your workout are crucial in muscle development so it's not a good idea to add alcohol in the mix.
