Martial Arts
I want to start training again, Im trying to pick an art form now.
I considered going back to Muay Thai, but I dont know, it was such a brutal thing to train.
I kind of want something more spiritual nowdays (Ive even done Thai Chi with my girls mother before, and Im beginning to meditate). Muay Thai here is just so watered down and made into a sport.
I dont like Taekwondo for that same reason (it's Korea's national sport, not a real martial art).
Im considering Wing Chun, there is a REALLY good school 2 streets north of me, or perhaps Karate, 2 streets south of me.
Im not fond of Wing Chun's kicking style, straight forward kicks as apposed to round kicks. And Im not fond of Karate's stance.
My main concern is I am 6'3, 88kg at the moment, Im not tiny. And my flexibility isnt that good, low to mid kicks are fine, but high kicks right now, forget it. Although mid kick for me is often to a shorter persons head, but you know what I mean.
So I dont know, Im confused right now. Its 3am and Ive been googling and youtubing all night...
Oh, and I hate grapple fighting. From a street point of view when someone grapples they get stabbed at close range. Ive been in a number of fights and the closest I like to get is a knew to the mid section. I like my punches and kicks to keep my opponent at a distance and make use of my natural advantage of a long reach.
Opinions, comments, suggestions?

Wing chun is most effective in close quarters combat, so if you're afraid to get stabbed you should stay away from that.
I don't really like Karate for some reason, maybe because every kid I knew took it but they still sucked (they fought in the "PUNCH ONE TWO" stance, maybe they get out of that in later years).
Ever thought of just boxing? Who needs kicks when your fists can knock someone out in one shot? You'd be able to bob and weave through punches and have the footwork to get around kicks and shit.
edit: Forgot about the "spiritual" part of the original post. Well if you want to kick someones ass go for boxing!

You ever think about Kendo, Rukas?
My friend did it for 2-3 years, he says it was the greatest.

i used to do kyokushinkai, thats a style of karate, when i was younger. but i stopped when i was like 14 cause they put me with the adult group (most of them were 30+) cause i was too strong for the junior group and i really didnt like the fact that i had to battle with adults twice my size and experience.

Id actually love to do Kendo as an addition to a martial art. I did fencing for a number of years when I was a kid and my father was on the Polish fencing team along with the kickboxing team.
The only thing stopping me from doing kendo right now is its lack of unarmed combat. But I would love to do it as a supplement.

You know what FlipMo, I think that does it Im going to do Kendo if I can find a good dojo.
I can already fight, so thats not an issue, like I said, I did kickboxing for a number of years and have a proven track record in street fights so learning to fight is not the issue.
I want to do something both rewarding mentally and spiritually and I think Kendo may be that. Let's hope I can find a dojo here.

I found a dojo and wow it's a cheap martial art. $60 membership plus $5 a lesson. Have to buy a lot of gear though.
Problem is training is only Monday 6.30 till 8.30, I can make that easy but I would like to train more than once a week. I guess this allows me to also pick up an unarmed martial art, I need something to partner it with and I guess Karate is my best bet both being Japanese.

I was big into judo when i was a kid, i only had 3 mons to do before i was a black belt. If people come running into kick or throw punches they are usually off balance, so its really quite easy to throw them about.Infact its as easy as throwing an old porn mag about. I'd recomend judo.

I hate Judo, I did it as a kid. Bored me. I need to be able to attack with punches and kicks.
