Metro-sexual Men

To what extent do Culture, history, society, or religion affect our view on:Metro sexual men.

And How do you personally view them...or are you sort of one?

Metro Sexual: Generally applied to heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, and/or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically attributed to gay men. (WIKI)

Personally, I consider myself very clean oriented. However, the only thing I consider to be sort of metro is that I pluck my eye brawls. More specific, to avoid uni-brawls and so it doesn't look so dirty. Now, I don't go shaping them or anything, but I always thought it funny for people to think this was gay, when I thought it was just taking care of oneself. Though, I admit that I won't go as far as shaving my legs or anything to that extent even though I am a hairy ass Latino. I think doing to much is like I said, a little too much. I come to this conclusion b/c generally, my family is all Latino so we don't really care about hair or looks, we more so view culture than anything, but with today's society I guess I kind of do a little here and there but not often.

In addition, I think it has to do with peoples culture and religion more so than being politically correct society b/c if the family see's it as weird, THEN you think society will think of you as weird.

One celebrity that comes to mind that is very Metro is Kanye West. I believe there was a video posted about how he got his style from gay men and thought it was okay to grab their style as long as he understood that he was out to attract only females, and be able to express himself.

Finally, What do you guys think of them, or your situation based on culture, history, society, or religion that affect our view on Metro sexual men?

I'm really not metro sexual, that's all I can say. And I lack of understanding too. Not that I care too much, but if a man needs more time in the bathroom than his girl, I feel like something is wrong ......

I think they look and act a lot like homosexual men and that's why people don't like them. A man has to be at least a bit "manly" so I guess that for most people they are like femine caricatures of men.
I also dislike metros but it's not that they bother me much these days.

True...I don't see the point of having to take twice as long as your girl. I hear that females see it as a turn off if it looks like you took a while to look that nice. I take 7-10 mins in the bathroom tops. Just use gel, slick it back once, spray colon on my wrist then rub it on my neck and get one ear-ring stud and i am out. Unless i use the massaging shower head after a long day of heavy lifting.

Im surprised you never took that into account.

David Beckham was maybe the first famous person people used to call metro-sexual. At least thats what i remember. So when the press labeled him a metro-sexual, all they wanted to express is that he is a good looking guy and takes care of his appearance.

However, i cant see how someone wont like such a person cause of that reason.

^I never really took it into account b/c most metro sexual men I know don't act gay. They are just hated on.

Here is another question I just though of regarding Metro.

If you are a person that works out more so for the image rather than for the health, does that make you Metro too?

If that was the case, every "manly" guy that masta considers "manly" at the gym would be metro. Everyone works out to improve their appearance and feel better about themselves.

There's a difference between clean, and metro-sexual. You can be styling, but not be a nini about it.

I consider myself clean, but I'm far from metrosexual. I try to dress nice/etc, but I don't start pampering myself with essential oils for the face and thensome.

A metrosexual is a guy that will spend as much time as a female getting ready in the bathroom. I've heard of guy's spending an hour to an hour and a half in the bathroom pampering themselves.

I'm guessing that from a purely biological point of view metrosexualism is not an attractice trait to women. I wonder if it's a new development in social gender identity caused solely by culture or rather a development that was suppressed because of pre-existing social gender bias.

In general I think women are too concerned with their appearance (which goes beyond the basic need to "impress" other people) so I don't like metrosexualism either. It's just superficial.
