Best Central Defenders in the world.

For me they are:

Vidic
Ferdinand
Carragher
Terry
Carvalho
Cannavaro
Nesta
Lucio
Chielini
Cordoba
Puyol

Pfff, tough. Imo it's one of the hardest things to rate since so much of what you could get to see depends on the opponent, lawl.

In any case, definite "ins" for me:

Terry, Carragher, Rio, Lucio, prolly Vidic as well.

Haven't seen much of Puyol and Carvalho lately. They used to reign supreme.

Cannavaro is not imo.

Chielini is still youngish, much to learn.

Nesta. Which Nesta? The old Nesta? He's too old.

Nesta is 32 now. When he is fully fit, he is the best all round centre half in world for me. His injury troubles have played a big part in AC Milan's poor form over the last 2 season.

Nesta is fantastic, but I wouldnt rate him one of the best currently has he hasnt played much in 2 years.

Cannavaro, I'm pretty sure the Cannavaro at Real Madrid is the real Cannavaroa retarded twin, the guy has been awful at times, comical defending. Hasnt been good domestically for 3 years.

Vidic I rate higher than Rio, hes in with a shout, I love Puyol, still rash sometimes though, hes played as fullback this season though, and was awesome as a RB last week.

Quite a lot of people seem to rate Vidic over Ferdinand which is fair enough as they're both top class defenders but I feel Rio is better. Ever since 2002 when Ferdinand and Sol Campbell (remember when he used to be good?) formed what was probably the best centre-back pairing at the World Cup, he's been solid apart from the odd game. However I think Vidic has been the better defender this year.

Terry and Carragher are up there too, Carragher just needs to stop scoring in his own net .
Carvalho is also quality on his day but he fell off the radar a bit with injuries.
Marquez and Puyol should be in for a shout too.
Cannavaro had a great 2006 World Cup but he hasn't exactly lived up to the high standards he set himself.

I like Terry cause he always puts his body on the line. A good defender will do what needs to be done to get the ball out. So, lots of respect to him.

Vidic is one of the best, that dirty Serb.

Cannavaro are some point, but not anymore. He's retarded now. lol.

Puyol deserves a shout as 2Pax said.

I would have put Robert Kovac a long long time ago, but I'm being a biased little pig

Isn't Nesta coming back for the Roma match up?

When I was younger (early teens) all the women went gaga for Nesta saying how beautiful he is. It would piss me off, so one day at school, I got pictures of him, and drew a cock(s) in his mouth and put it on the girls desks before they arrived and pretended I didn't do it. It made me feel good

Nesta is as hard as nails too.

I would have had Kovac amongst the best a few years ago. He is a good defender.

I always think Nesta is much older than he really is. Like Maldini-old.

bacho5 is an unknown quantity at this point
It used to be Nesta.

Now it should be Puyol. Btw, Barca is the best team on the planet right now!

Please take Carragher out of your list. Not even close. I'm glad you didn't include ''Mr. I score own goals'' in your list.

^ Stroke of bad luck. He's the type that'll try to put his foot on the ball at any time. Sometimes he gets unlucky. I rate him. Maybe not as high as those other guys, but a damn fine central defender.
