from what I've learned recently, the best help you can provide to a friend who is depressed is to refer them to professional help. Only them can help your friend.
my friend was very depressed, did several suicide attempts. we never saw the signs until recently and now she is going through therapy several times a week and on a suicide watch.
as friends we can be there for such person but really there's not much we can do except being there and support the fact they are seeking professional help.

xanax is a psychiatric drug. you have to loose touch with reality to convince your doctor enough to be prescribed such a drug.
on a side note, drugs are bad m'kay.

xanax is a benzo. generally prescribed for anxiety and panic attacks. i hear in the US they hand em out like candy.. you just gotta say you have anxiety attacks. not sure about europe..
your friend clearly needs therapy though. taking 3 different types of benzo's isn't cool, especially rohypnol (date rape drug - very strong). benzo's are extremely addictive and i believe one of the few types of drugs you can actually die from if you stop suddenly, hence the need to taper off slowly.
i suggest you try and get him to see a psychiatrist or some shit.

well some people need them just to get out of bed in the morning and they're extremely benificial to those who need them. for their intended purpose i'm sure they're a godsend.
however, his friend clearly isn't using them for their intended purpose. he's using them to get high, and that's where problems come about, because you build up a tolerance very fast.
but yeah, in general you're right.

yeh, his tolerance is high, one day he was on 16 (!) xanors in 24 hrs. i cut my hand so typing sorta retardedly (no more essays for a while!).
he doesn't trust others. he will second guess and doubt most advice given to him cause he grew up in a fosterhold where they beat him.even when people want what's best for him, he'll react in weird ways like take offense to being helped, etc.
he currently is undergoing therapy of sorts, and he now has a new doctor that is helping him cut down. in the meantime i have tried and partially succeeded in helping him entertain and accept the notion of trusting the people who wants what's best for you, and learning how to tell whether someone's like that, or using you. i got him to trust me, and i want what's best for him. so next time he's tripping and i tell him "dude chill, this is me talking, you're only tripping." he might be like "i guess you're right" instead of second guessing me like i'm protecting him to not hurt his feelings. or whatever, like im playing him and saying things to lure out a certain response.

i meant if they are to be stopped, it should be progessive. obviously some people clearly need them to function properly.
