Killing Joke

Any fans?

I've heard all of their albums except for Brighter than a Thousand Suns, Outside the Gate and The Courtauld Talks (which leaves 10 albums) and they range from good to amazing. Jaz Coleman has a great presence on the mic, Geordie's an excellent guitarist and bass players Youth and Paul Raven always had great parts. Very nice discography as well. It's quite versatile ranging from 80s post-punk to industrial metal but always has their signature sound on it.

If you're not familiar with them I suggest their self-titled album from 1980 (there's also one from 2003) and their 2006 album Hosannas from the Basements of Hell. Two of their best albums and it's their debut and latest album so you can see how their music changed over time.

Their 80s stuff is definitely recommended if you like The Cure or Joy Division... this is just more aggressive and dancable.

From wikipedia:

Killing Joke influenced many later bands, such as Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Napalm Death, Godflesh, Big Black, Tool, Prong, Metallica, Primus, Jane's Addiction, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Faith No More and Korn, all of whom have at some point cited some debt of gratitude to 'The Joke'.

See their song "Eighties" to hear where Nirvana got the riff for "Come as You Are" from.

Not a fan, but I'm pretty sure Militant has a cassette tape of their lead single from '85.

Duke says you're a fan of Nevermore. That's cool, they're from 'round these parts.

Yes, yes I am. Warrel Dane makes me wet. The only album I don't like that much (yet) is Enemies of Reality.

Did you know that "Eighties" was a single from '85 or was it a coincidence?

I actually don't.

I do like Killing Joke though. 'Eighties' is a great song. It was used as the theme to "That 80's Show" in recent years.
