Heavy D

The Los Angeles Coroners office announced that Heavy D passed away from a blood clot found in his lungs among other issues. The terminology is a pulmonary embolism which if untreated immediately, can prove to be fatal. D had just come back from London after performing at the Michael Jackson tribute show. It’s being said due to the long flight and inactivity, this is the main reason behind the clot being formed in his leg, or as the medical field calls it, deep leg thrombosis.  This is a tragic loss for the entire music industry. Dwight died November 8th, 2011.

Last Tuesday we lost an enormous (no pun intended) part of the Hip Hop community with the passing of Heavy D. His family caught up with AllHipHop.com to weigh in on the emotional and physical distress and gratitude he had on them.

Hev had great love for his family and friends; he was a kind and giving spirit who extended and shared himself with everyone who crossed his path. He had a heart of gold, was approachable, very personable and gave of himself willingly and unconditionally.

Though Hev will most notably be remembered for his work both behind-the-scenes and in the forefront, he will always be remembered by us as a generous soul who remained humble and unselfish till his final days.Out of all Hev’s successes and accomplishments, in his eyes, his most important triumph was that of becoming a father.

Hev’s love for his daughter Xea was profound–she was the center of his life, his heart, his soul. He often said “I cannot live without her and that she embodied every phenomenal attribute that he brought to this world.”

The name and the success of Heavy D will always be synonymous with music forever. He never compromised his values and artistry, and encouraged his peers to do the same.

To us, Hev was the one who made us laugh, cry, sing, dance and turn a frown upside down. As a family, we are devastated by Hev’s passing but through our faith in God and support from family, friends and fans-we are comforted, blessed and will remain strong. His “bear hugs” are going to be deeply missed.

Earlier we reported on the death of Heavy D. Here are just a few Tweets from the Hip-Hop Community weighing in on how his death has affected them after the jump.

The Hip-Hop world is saddened by the passing of Heavy D yesterday afternoon. Heavy had collapsed outside of his condo in Beverly Hills at approximately 11:25am yesterday morning. When paramedics arrived, he was conscious and breathing, although complaining of breathing complications. He was later taken to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:00pm Pacific Time. Early reports state it was due to flu-like symptoms or a possible heart attack. An autopsy has been performed but the medical examiners office will not release any cause of death until toxicology reports come back in about 4-6 weeks.

Heavy was born May 24th, 1967. Real name Dwight Arrington Myers. He was just a mere 44 years old. All of us here at StreetHop.com send our personal condolences to the family and friends of the legendary man who created an enormous pathway for artists today.
