Archive for June, 2009

Today VIBE Magazine announced they were closing their doors. The magazine had an almost 16 year run and were prepping a Michael Jackson tribute issue when they got the word.
The cause? The economy of course. VIBE’s Top 10 advertisers were automotive and fashion companies that were hit hard by the recession.
Hit the jump for letters from VIBE’s Editor-In-Cheif Danyel Smith and CEO Steve Aaron.
Apparently Crooked I missed the 6 Minute Slaughterhouse interview because he was in the bathroom, so not to be outdone, he caught up with DJ RTC for a 7 minute interview.

Nowadays with a lot of great artists being independent, and with the sheer amount of album releases, it’s easy to let an album slip by without knowing it has been released. So we at StreetHop.com have decided to launch a new weekly feature called “New Album Tuesday” listing all the notable Hip-Hop albums being released that day.
So here is the first edition for June 30th 2009. This week is a good week for New York with the major releases coming from Maino and Wu Tang as well as an album from M.O.P. that I didn’t even know was coming out (see how good this idea is?). The west coast holds it down with a joint album from Bizzy Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Bad Azz from DPG as well as the sophomore album from Tash of Tha Alkaholiks.
Ace Hood – Ruthless
Bizzy Bone & Bad Azz – Thug Pound
Cage – Depart from Me
DJ Khaled – Live from the 305
M.O.P – Foundation
Maino – If Tomorrow Comes…
Tash (from Tha Liks) – Control Freek
The Kid Daytona – Come Fly With Me
Wu-Tang – Chamber Music
Haha. Shout out to Rahim for this one. The Suge Knight Light! “Sleep tight, with some help from Suge Knight!”

Here’s a new track straight from the Shady Capo himself, Ca$his, called “Bigga Than Me” from his upcoming Euthanasia LP.

Shake just posted a new track from The Alchmeist’s Chemical Warfare, dropping next Tuesday, July 7th.

Earlier today I posted a new video clip from Stormey and now I have received word that The Outlawz member has been arrested in Sweden on possession of a controlled substance.
According to Young Noble, Stormey and his driver were interrogated by Swedish Border Patrol for five hours, after which the driver was released while Stormey was detained.
Here is what The Outlawz told StreetHop.com:
The Outlawz believe this was a clear case of racial and social profiling, being that Stormey is African-American and a Hip Hop Artist. Several months or so before this incident, Snoop Dogg had eluded Swedish Authorities and narrowly avoided arrest himself for similar charges. They also believe that Stomey is now being held with the malicious intent to be “made an example of” as a result of this.
Sweden being one of the strictest countries when it comes to drugs, with a ZERO Tolerance Law. Stormey is currently sitting in a Swedish jail cell awaiting sentencing while the rest of The Outlawz continue on there European tour as planned, praying for there comrades safe and swift release.
